Hang in There!

Good evening everyone! First things first, I am alive!! Just barely, but I am alive and slaving away over group projects, presentations and papers. Between school work and social commitments, I have certainly been kept very busy, but I know that every other university student is feeling the same pressures right around the time. With that said, I am sending all my university friends a big hug via the Internet and reminding you all to just keep doing your best - the end is near! Work hard and we will all get there! (At least that's what my parents tell me)

Alright, so because I skipped a week, I will try to highlight the interesting things I have done in the past two weeks since returning to Lennoxville after Reading Week. It was super depressing to leave the sunny, snow-free city and come back to eternal winter, but that's Canada for you. My first Monday back to school was a planning day at Princess Elizabeth so I didn't get to teach or see any of my students when I went in. Instead, I attended a workshop given by the principal and a grade 1 teacher on a conference they had attended in February. I then helped my associate teacher colour some math games and I planned my lesson for the next week. Not too eventful, but since my next lesson was going to be watched by my supervisor it was nice to get some direction and feedback on my lesson ideas in order to plan for the week to come.

After practicum, I had my two afternoon classes and then went to the gym and the grocery store with Jocelyn (sorry, getting into the irrelevant details here). After dinner, even though I was not on duty, Jocelyn and I went down to Mackinnon to watch the Bachelor Finale with a few of the residents. Unfortunately, we had not yet caught up on all the episodes we had missed but we decided that we should just watch the Finale anyway and were happy to have some company in Mack to discuss the show with. It made us feel like part of the live studio audience. And what a finale it was!! While I was surprised that Juan Pablo did not end up proposing, I support his decision to not propose if he wasn't 100% sure. My mom thinks him and Nikki will be over before the end of the year. I think I agree. Two other bits of news related to the best reality show on TV: 1) Andi is the new Bachelorette and Jocelyn and I both support this choice. We are hoping that we will at least get to watch one episode together. 2) Yesterday, I found a news article about the exciting new spin-off coming this summer - Bachelor in Paradise, which is essentially Bachelor Pad on a tropical island. I am unsure if this is something to look forward to or not...

Ok, back on track here. Tuesday was a fairly typical day, with homework, a swim, afternoon classes, and free dinner with Gaby. My night class was fun because we started our presentations on various children's books. Two groups presented last week - one group did "Peter Rabbit" and wrote a really nice song about the book and the other group, which my friends Kirsten and Ellen were in, did a talk show about the book Holes, which was fantastic! Unfortunately, I did not win Holes bingo, but my group did win for the best choral reading of Peter Rabbit!

Wednesday again was a typical day and I was on duty in Mackinnon, so I slept over and got up to swim early the next morning. However, overnight we had a huge snow storm here so I woke up to a winter wonderland! Which would have been really nice, if it was also Christmas morning. I had planned to go home after swimming but ended up staying on campus all day, working in the library between classes and then making my semesterly appearance at Happy Hour (other than the Golden Key fundraiser). Happy Hour was surprisingly enjoyable, with Hannah, Jocelyn and a bunch of friends I don't usually see. We ended up staying there way later than I had planned. I came home to eat dinner and go to bed but arrived to find a party going on in our living room. I was too mentally exhausted to socialize, so curled up with my go-to pal, Macky the MacBook and went to bed.

Friday, I had a meeting for a group project, attended a dining committee meeting  and then was on duty in Mackinnon. One RA Sam was hosting a Mardi Gras event, and had made king cake, crepes and gumbo, which me, and all the residents thoroughly enjoyed. I stayed over in Mack because I had a group meeting with my Alice in Wonderland group the next morning, and Sam made us all breakfast. After the meeting, I had my last Big Buddies event, for which we went to the sports plex. Hannah and I played freeze dance, ran the track, ate ice cream sundaes and went swimming in the pool. We had a lot of fun, but I was sad to have to say goodbye to her at the end of the afternoon. But I did tell her mom that if she ever needs a babysitter she can call me up!

So then it was time to celebrate St. Patrick's Day! That night, my friends Sarah, Vicki, Sara, Gaby and Kirsten all came over and we had a bit of a girls' night (i.e. fruity drinks, pop music and lots of posing for photos) before heading "out on the town." We got all dressed up in our various green pieces of clothing and tacky St. Pat's props and even did some themed temporary tattoos (see photo below). There were a lot of people out celebrating that night, making it a really great time!

Sunday was a work day for us all, and I spent majority of the day on campus studying away. I tried to go to bed early, failed, but then woke up excited to see all of my students! I was being evaluated and so was super nervous but I am happy to report that everything went well! I taught a lesson to my grade 3/4s on writing personal narratives; to connect it to St. Patrick's Day, I had them write about a time when they felt lucky. For my grade 6s, I gave them each a bag of Lucky Charms cereal and had them go on an Internet scavenger hunt to find out why each charm was lucky. Both lessons went really well and my supervisor gave me really positive feedback. She even liked my lesson plan so  much that she wants to use it as an example for other student teachers!

The rest of the day was jam-packed, including a Golden Key Meeting and work that night. However, I was able to watch MasterChef Canada, my other favourite reality tv show. Tuesday I got up to go for an early morning swim and then came home to spend the rest of the day preparing for my Alice in Wonderland presentation. I printed off signs, made my Queen of Hearts costume and organized my props for my stations. I was really nervous for the presentation, but it ended up going really well. We each dressed up as a different character from the story and had 6 stations for our peers to rotate through. We had croquet with Lewis Carroll, cards with the Queen of Hearts, story time with Alice and tea and movies with the Mad Hatter, to name a few. The only thing we did not coordinate well was the food we brought with us! We had originally planned to have tea for the Mad Hatter's tea party and Eat Me cakes, which Sam and I had made the night before, but then we ended up having heart candies, peach candies and timbits! Our classmates probably felt bribed to give us a good mark (hopefully it worked)! Though the room got a bit chaotic at times, like our prof said, nothing is  ever completely sane in Wonderland!

Paint the roses red with Alice!

Wednesday was average, with the highlight being me making fettucine alfredo with shrimp for dinner. Thursday was also average, however I did get to go to Dewies for dinner as a part of a Dining Committee event called DIY Dewies. The committee had made recipes cards for dishes that could be made with the food around Dewies, so myself and a first year named Lauren handed out recipes for Chicken Pad Thai, iced tea and ice cream cookie sandwiches. I did not try the recipes, instead opted to take full advantage of the Mexican taco and nacho bar. After dinner, I went to the Golden Key Social, which was a wine and cheese in Cleghorn. The event was intimate but it was nice to chat with some of the other members, though many of the attendees were my friends that I see on a regular basis. After the event, I was on duty in Mack with Vicki. Hannah had said she would come for a visit, but changed her mind last minute, so instead I got a surprise visit from Jocelyn. Vicki and I spent the last few hours of our shift watching Glee and then went to bed to rest up for our group meeting in the morning.

We had a group meeting for our spelling project at 8am, which was rough after a 4am bedtime. I didn't get a chance to nap that day, as I spent majority of the day doing research for various projects, had a meeting with a prof and then went to the mall with Kirsten to buy decorations for the Education Formal. We did get to make a stop at Starbucks, which made for an ideal afternoon. Jocelyn, Elizabeth, Sarah and I then had a movie night featuring the hit Disney feature, Cadet Kelly. This was a perfect choice as Hannah's friend who goes to the Royal Military College is coming to visit us next week so now I'll have some potential conversation topics (kidding).

Saturday, we had another snowy day, so I chose not to leave the house until absolutely necessary. I went over to the local firehall at 5:30 to help set up for the Education Gala that night. The theme was "When in Rome," so we had Italian music, a silent screening of Roman Holiday and a make your own wine label craft activity. We had lasagna and caesar salad for dinner, with chocolate cake for dessert. The event was a fundraiser for the BEST Buddies club, which pairs Bishop's students with mentally impaired members of the community and organizes activities for the buddies to do together. The buddies were our servers for the event, which was really nice and I think they all had a lot of fun. We also had a photo booth, a raffle and a craft sale, making for a very nice evening and a successful fundraiser.

Following the gala, I came home to finish writing a paper (the draft was completed at approximately 3:30am) and then I treated myself to watching the first half of the Disney movie Frozen. It is so, so good!! I can't wait to watch the rest! I slept in a bit today, planned my lesson for tomorrow, caught up on some work, had a group meeting and talked with my mom about booking my flight to Orlando! The semester is quickly coming to a close and before I know it, I will be jetting off to the most magical place on Earth! I cannot wait! The only things standing in my way are 2 group projects, 3 papers, 2 quizzes, an interview, an annotated bibliography, 3 exams and god-knows-how-many Moodle discussions (if you don't know what those are, you are lucky). It's going to be a busy last month of school but time is going to fly by!  I only hope that I am able to stay on board the flight (Sorry, that was totally cheesy)

Anyway, I wish you all a wonderful week!

All my love,

Erica xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

PS My virtual child hit the ripe old age of 18 and went on to college! Guess I did something right as a parent after all!

PPS Good luck to my sister Lauren and the Sailfin Sharks as they head to their competition in Myrtle Beach this week! Chomp down!

Sex and the City - Lennoxville Edition (Reading Week 2014)

"Women come to New York for the two L's: Labels and Love." -Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City

Well, I am not sure if that's why we went to New York, but we certainly loved every minute we spent there and I love the 3 girls I explored the city with. This past week was Reading Week, and I spent the past 4 days in New York City with my 3 housemates, Jocelyn, Elizabeth and Hannah. Before that, I was at home in Ancaster for a few days and now I am back at my house in Lennoxville, preparing for the final stretch of my second year of university. Reading Week 2014 was an absolute blast and I can't believe it's already finished. My question now though is, since Reading Week is over, does that mean I can stop reading? Just kidding, obviously, as now that it is March, I have to submerge myself in all of my end of term projects. But right now, I am still on cloud nine from the fantastic break I had and cannot wait to tell you all about it.

Last night, I quickly wrote about all that I did in the week leading up to Reading Week. As I said, I traveled home on Friday and spent 4 days at home. On Saturday, I made a stop at Goodlife Fitness, where I used my mom's gym pass to get in. Usually, this works for me, however, when I went to leave the gym, the lady at the front desk said "the computer said that you were 47 when you signed in. Is this a mistake?" Uh oh. I quickly mumbled something about accidentally grabbing my mom's gym pass and ran out of there before they could find out that I was not a paying member. Following that, I downloaded a 3 day pass to use for the remainder of my time in Ancaster.

I spent the rest of the afternoon doing my K-E take home midterm and then went with my dad to watch my sister in her cheerleading competition in Kitchener. It was the provincial competition and their run on Saturday was great! Being the dedicated fan that I am, I was all decked out in teal - I was wearing a Perry the Platypus t-shirt, a teal scarf, teal eyeshadow and a cheer bow and I stood in the "Fan Zone" with my mom to watch the performance. I made sure the crowd knew that it was my sister they were watching. I hope that I did not embarrass Lauren too much! Following the competition, we went home and I learned how to FaceTime in order to catch up with one of my best friends from home Alex, who is at Western University. I had not talked to him since Christmas Day, so it was nice to catch up. I also got to meet all of his roommates during our conversation, which was really fun.

Sunday, I got up and went to the gym again (on my own pass this time) and then went out for brunch with my friend Elena. We picked a bad time to go as church had just finished in Ancaster, and apparently everyone goes to Cora's at that time. After a long wait, we finally got a table and had a nice catch up over banana blast crepes and egg white omelettes. I am also happy to report that I have now filled up my Cora's Breakfast club card so my next meal will be free!! To prepare, I looked through the menu to pick out the largest, most expensive meal on the menu. I'm thinking one of the big breakfast combo plates, but we will see. Unfortunately, beverages and sides are not included.

After breakfast, I went back home, finished my midterm and then headed back to Kitchener for round 2 of the cheer competition. However, before going to the auditorium, I went to visit another friend Maggie at Waterloo University. I had not seen Maggie since June so it was so nice to see her! I got to see her residence building and campus, and we had a nice catch up about everything that had happened since last spring. We are both hoping to be on exchange next semester, with me in France and her in Leedes, so we are hoping that we will be able to meet up and do some traveling together! Honestly, I can't think of a better person to be a French tourist with! She will definitely rock a beret and eat croissants and baguettes under the Eiffel Tower with me. After a short but sweet visit, I went to the cheer competition with my mom, where we saw my cousin Claire, who had just finished cheering for the day. Her twin sister is considering coming to Bishop's next year, so I casually reminded her to remind Jaye to come out and visit me, and invited Claire along too! Hopefully, they can make it out here the weekend of their 18th birthdays! My housemates and I are seasoned birthday party planners now, so they would be in for a treat! After talking with her for a bit, we went in to watch the routine and though it was not as good as Saturdays, they still placed second in the province overall! Good job Sailfin Sharks!

Monday and Tuesday were pretty laid-back days. I went to the gym both days, went to the dentist both days (got a new retainer, woohoo), helped me mom look at glasses, did some homework and hung around my house with my siblings. I watched The Bachelor: Women Tell All on Monday and went out to Cora's (again) with my dad on Tuesday. He let me put the meals on my card, so now I am two meals closer to another free meal! I think I might be developing an addiction to Cora's...maybe I will have to make a visit to the one in Sherbrooke. On Tuesday, I went down to the Hamilton Police Station in order to have a records check done because I have officially accepted my offer to work in DISNEY WORLD for the summer! It was a really big decision to make, as it was hard to give up my landscaping job, 2 months at camp and all the time at home with my family, especially since I am also hoping to be in France for the fall term. However, my mom reminded me that I was having a typical Erica moment, meaning I always second guess every decision I make and I reminded myself that it has been my dream to work in Disney World since my last, last trip to Orlando and I am now super happy that I decided to accept my offer. I am positive that it will be the experience of a lifetime and I cannot wait to go! Now I just have to hope that I will be able to pass the 20/20 vision test and other swimming requirements and hope that I get my records check back in time! Countdown until I start working in the happiest place on Earth: 65 days

Following a busy few days at home, on Tuesday, I packed my suitcase back up and boarded the Go Train to meet Jocelyn in Toronto to catch our bus to NYC at midnight. Hannah and Elizabeth boarded a bus at the same in Montreal. Our bus ride took about 12 hours, with a stop at the border and two rest stops along the way. It was brutal having to get off the bus at 2am to go through customs but surprisingly, the trip overall was not too bad. I got a solid night of sleep and was able to do my readings for my Children's Lit class. We got into the city just before noon and then walked several blocks to Times Square to catch the subway to Queens, which is where my godfather, Chris, his wife Erin and son Griffin live. Let me tell you - the NYC subway system is very, very confusing the first time you try to figure it out, especially when you are in the Times Square Station, as there are trains to literally everywhere! After asking every news stand worker in the station for directions and trekking up and down at least 7 flights of stairs, we finally found the 7 train and rode to Chris and Erin's apartment. We successfully found the apartment building and were warmly welcomed by Erin and Griffin. Unfortunately, we had not yet tracked down Hannah and Elizabeth, but eventually they made it to the subway stop, so we walked up the road to bring them to our home for the next three days. Finally, the entire gang was reunited and our Lennoxville rendition of Sex and the City could begin! As I am the "writer" (this blog), I got to be Carrie Bradshaw. Erin had prepared us a really nice lunch of quiche, bagels and fresh fruit, a nice treat after our long travels. Hannah and Elizabeth had gotten in around 7 that morning, so I think they were happy to finally be off the NYC streets. After filling our stomachs, settling in and bonding with little Griffin, we set off for our day in the city!
First group selfie in the city (on Jocelyn's new fancy phone)
We divided our city touring into 3 parts - uptown, downtown and midtown and decided to venture into uptown first. We started our afternoon in Central Park, visiting Jackie O's reservoir and walking the paths for a bit. We stopped at the Guggenheim's gift shop and then went to the Metropolitan Museum. We did not realize that it closed at 5:30 until about 4pm, so we did not have a long visit, but it was a good enough visit for me. Because we only had an hour until closing, we did not have to pay full admission price, which worked well for our NYC student budget. Obviously, we did not have nearly enough time to tour the entire museum, so I went to a special exhibit on Paris photography (in preparation for fall exchange) and to the musical instruments exhibit. I was fortunate enough to overhear a curator explaining some of the different pieces, but mainly I just read the signs and admired the instruments. The 4 of us regrouped in the lobby and went back to walk through Central Park again. This time, we found the Alice in Wonderland statue, which I got a picture with for my Children's Lit project and walked by the John Lennon "Imagine" sign, where there was a man playing Beatles music on the guitar. By then, it was getting dark so we began the long walk to Times Square. And when I say long walk, I mean loooonnnnggg walk, over 20 blocks. Elizabeth and I were going to see Matilda, so we walked all the way to the theatre, and left Jocelyn and Hannah to go find dinner somewhere along the way. We met a nice lady who walked us right to the theatre and got there around 7pm. We went into the box office and asked for the cheapest seats available and ended up getting regular $135 tickets for $42 each. We then grabbed some dinner before heading back to the theatre for 8pm. Our seats ended up being fantastic, the first row in the upper balcony with a perfect view of the stage. The show was AMAZING!! The little girl playing Matilda and all the other kids in the cast were so, so talented! The set was gorgeous and the musical numbers were amazing. I was so happy that we got to see it, and Elizabeth was too, as she has been listening to the music for the past few weeks at home. After the show, the two of us went to Juniors, a little restaurant across the street, for their famous cheesecake. I had raspberry swirl cheesecake and Elizabeth had red velvet cheesecake. They were both delicious, of course. We strolled through Times Square for a bit and then caught the subway home, where we met up with Jocelyn and Hannah, who had gone for dinner and to see a movie at a Juilliard independent film theatre. All in all, it was a great first day in the city!

On Thursday, we had a nice breakfast with Erin and Griffin and then headed to Brooklyn for our day downtown. We took the subway all the way to the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge. We walked the streets of Brooklyn, making a bathroom break in the Brooklyn Marriott hotel and after a detour to the Manhattan bridge, we made it to the base of the Brooklyn Bridge. We then spent the next hour or so walking across the bridge, stopping about ever 3 metres to take pictures of the bridge, the city skyline, each other, etc. The weather was absolutely perfect for our walk, sunny and not too cold. Once we arrived in Manhattan, we watched a local street dancing troop and then walked to the Staten Island Ferry station. We chose to do this as our way of seeing the Statue of Liberty, as it goes right by the statue and has no fee for riding. Another part of the NYC student budget plan. On the way over, there was no outside viewing deck, so we sat inside the boat but on our boat ride back, we were able to stand outside and get a nice view of the statue and some good pictures. After the ferry ride, we walked through Chinatown, where I bought a new scarf (typical Erica, though it's not entirely purple), Elizabeth and Jocelyn bought purses and Jocelyn got a new scarf, as well. After Chinatown, we walked through SoHo, another shopping district and I bought a new purse at Steve Madden, a gift from my mother - so thank you Mom! We went into some other stores and then headed home for dinner with Chris and Erin. They made us pizza, including dough from scratch and then had 5 different kinds of ice cream and gelato for dessert. Just another example of them spoiling us. We then had an early night in after a long day on the town to rest up for our final day in the city.

Friday, we awoke to another nice breakfast from Erin; Chris was there as well, since he took the day off from work. Friday was our day to hit up midtown: we began at Grand Central Station, where we went to a few different stores in the train station, including an Apple store and Magnolia's bakery, known for their delicious cupcakes. Then, we went to the New York Public Library, which if you have never been, gives library a whole new meaning. We did some exploring in the library, including the famous Reading Room, where Jocelyn and I had a little photoshoot. We then went to the gift shop/bookstore, where I bought a storybook to read to my students at PEES. I told the cashier that I was a student teacher buying the book for my students so she gave me the teachers discount, which was a nice surprise. I can't wait to read "Larry Gets Lost in New York City" to my grade 3/4s! After finishing up at the library, we had leftover pizza for lunch at a table outside the library and then began our trek up 5th Avenue to the MoMA, or the Museum of Modern Art. Along the way, we did some shopping, visiting the Lego Store and Hollister and walking by the Rockefeller Center, Juicy Couture, American Girl Place, Prada, Fendi and many other expensive stores. We spent the rest of the afternoon at the MoMA, where I toured around with Jocelyn and Hannah, visiting special exhibits on art in the modern day world and one on a specific artist, Isa Genzken and touring a photography gallery and the Andy Warhol exhibits. Following the MoMA, we went to (wait for it) TIFFANY & CO! Diamonds really are a girl's best friend and I wanted to buy a whole bunch of new best friends at Tiffany's, but I resisted. They have an entire floor dedicated to just engagement rings! My housemates have promised me that they will direct my future husband to the second floor of Tiffany's. Ring size 7, take note. After Tiffany's, we hopped on the subway to head to Tribeca to meet Erin, Chris and Griffin for dinner at the North End Grill. The meal was absolutely delicious, and again, Chris and Erin spoiled us with appetizers, entrées, a cheese platter and desserts! The lemon meringue pie and coconut meringue tart were phenomenal and my red snapper was delicious! I almost had to have my friends roll me out of the restaurant. For our final night in the city, we went back to Times Square, where we checked out a lot of typical tourist stores, the M&M store and the Hershey Factory Store. We loaded up on chocolate and souvenirs and then headed back to the apartment to rest up for our trip home.

Saturday, Erin made us a lovely breakfast of scones, smoothies and burritos and packed us a huge lunch for the trip home. We hopped in a cab to the Port Authority bus station, made a stop at the post office so Hannah could mail a postcard to her dad and then boarded the bus for our trip back to Canada. We were unfortunately all separated on the bus, but we made it back to Montreal an hour and  a half earlier than scheduled. We met our carpool at the bus station, drove back to Lennoxville and were home just before 10pm. We turned up the heat, unpacked and I called my family to wish them well on their trip to Curacao (an island off the Venezuelan coast)!

Final morning in the city!
Today was a day for rest, relaxation and homework catch up. Jocelyn, Hannah and I met our friends Mitch, Mark, Phil and Josh (also my Mackinnon residents, but since we have been hanging out with them a lot lately, I will now refer to them as friends and not residents) for afternoon skating, but instead of going to the indoor rink this week we went to the outdoor rink in the local park. It was a bit of a hike there, but definitely worth it. The boys even let me play hockey with them for a bit, though the stick I was using was taller than me, making it a bit difficult to show off my skills! It was a great afternoon and the weather was beautiful! Hopefully, it is here to stay! I did some more homework in the afternoon, went for an evening run (and then it got dark and  I got scared, so picked up my pace on the way home), had some dinner and FaceTimed with my friend Alex again (twice in one week - I feel so special!) Now it is off to bed to rest for practicum tomorrow morning!

Me with the face off
So congratulations if you were able to read this until the very end! I hope the pictures helped to break my long adventure story up! I had an unbelievably amazing week, getting to see and talk to some of my best friends from home, catching up with my godfather, and spending a great few days in the city with the best friends a girl could ask. I want to send out one more big thank you to Chris, Erin and Griffin for hosting us in their apartment for the duration of our trip! Finally, I just wanted do say that before going on my trip, a lot of people were surprised to hear that I was going away with the girls that I live with, but honestly, there is no one else in the world I would rather spend my reading week with. I am truly the luckiest girl in the world to have such amazing housemates and I just wish that everyone could be as fortunate as me. So thank you to Jocelyn, Hannah and Elizabeth for an unforgettable trip and some great memories and I can't wait for everything else we will do together! Coming up this week, the St. Patrick's Day celebrations will begin and I can't wait for Lennoxville to turn green with Irish pride! Wishing you all a wonderful week!

All my love, Erica

February's End: Pre-Reading Week Part 1

Good evening everyone! It just occurred to me that I forgot to upload my blog post from last week! I started writing it while I was at my sister's cheerleading competition last Sunday but then fell asleep in the car before I finished. Now, another week has already passed and I am a week behind, so what I have decided to do is to write a brief recap of my final week of February and the first part of my reading week and then later tonight (Sunday) I will write all about my trip to the city - which was absolutely fantastic, if you were wondering. So before the clocks spring ahead on me, here is a look back on what I was up to before NYC!

So Monday before the break, I had my practicum, where I taught a lesson to my grade 3/4s centred around the topic of shoes. I read them a story called Those Shoes and then they worked through a series of stations on the same topic. Unfortunately, the stations did not go as well as my Olympic ones the week before but I learned a lot from it, mainly that I need to make smaller groups for my students to work in. It was a lot of fun to read them a story though! Then, I taught a lesson to my grade 6 class on bullying. To introduce my lesson, I showed them a $20 bill, crumpled it up and then asked if they still wanted it, which of course they did. This led into a discussion about how you can't take away someone's value, an idea that we worked with throughout the lesson. Finally, we had library buddies with the grade 2s, during which I read with one of my students.

After practicum, I had my K-E class, my final one before the break. We were divided into groups for our term project. For the project, we were assigned a school and we now must create curriculum for the school based on the students, the community, etc. My school is an école vision, a special kind of school in Quebec. I have not worked with anyone in my group before, so this will be an interesting assignment... I have mixed feelings towards it. I will keep you updated.

After class, I went to the gym and then to knitting club. I am currently working on a pair of leg warmers. Purple, of course. Then, I was on duty in Mackinnon so I headed to campus to start work. I spent my time in between rounds studying for my midterm the next day. Even though it was an early night, I stayed over in Mack so that I could get up early and go swimming Tuesday morning. Despite wanting to ignore my alarm, I managed to drag myself to the pool at 7am. Following that, I walked home, on which I witnessed a car crash, which really freaked me out. A car pulling out of the gas station hit a car on the main road. Everyone was ok but I was just praying that the crash was not a sign for how my midterm was going to go that night. I came home and did some homework and then went to the local firehall for an education gala planning meeting. We have decided to go with a Roman Holiday theme, so Kirsten, Janet and I were planning the event layout and decorations. I am really excited about all the ideas we have had so far, so education students mark the date - March 22nd and get your tickets this week!

Following my meeting, I came home and watched my online lecture from my prof who was in Halifax for the week. Then, I went to my psych class, studied some more for my midterm and grabbed dinner from Tim Hortons. Well, I tried to order dinner but they were all out of chili and soup so I ordered a cup of hot water and mixed my own soup from some mix I had in my bag. Student living at its finest. I then had my Children's Literature midterm which went better than I thought it would. Hopefully, my prof will have them marked this week. Following that, I went to visit Vicki in Mack and hung out for a while before heading home for the night.

Wednesday, I had no class, so I bummed around at home all morning, doing various homework assignments and talking to my dad on the phone. While we were talking, I was looking for my markers in my skating bag which I could not find!! I started freaking out and looking everywhere around my house for my skates. I knew that I had had my bag on Sunday and had gone to the library and the bank so I called both places but no one had seen them. After another frantic look around the house, I had a sudden realization of where I had left them - on the stair railing! I looked under Jocelyn's coat pile on the hook and there they were! Crisis averted.

Following the great skate hunt, I said goodbye to Sarah who was leaving for Rwanda for two weeks. I wished her well on her inspiring trip and watched her drive away. After that, I went to the gym and came home to make dinner. I made a spinach quinoa dish and roasted asparagus. Delicious. Following dinner, I did some more homework and watched 2 episodes of MasterChef Canada while raising my Virtual Child. Bridgette is 15 now, and I was freaking out on Wednesday night when when she was asking to go to her first co-ed party and go on her first date. From this, I learned that I am not ready to raise teenagers yet!

Thursday, I met Kirsten on campus to hand out biscotti (made by Janet) and Gala invitations to the education professors. We were not able to find all of them, but the ones that we did find were quite impressed with our treats. I hope they will all be able to come! I then went for a swim and to psych class, where we had  Virtual Child discussion, meaning I got to brag about Bridgette for a grade.  After class, I went to the Gait to help out with the Golden Key Jump Rope for Heart Fundraiser at Happy Hour. We had a "guess how many candies in the jar" raffle, a photo booth,, a jump rope competition and a hula hoop competition. It ended up being a lot of fun and we raised a good amount of money for Heart and Stroke.

Following Happy Hour, I quickly raced home to grab my overnight bag and then ran back to campus to start work for the night. For the first time, I was on duty with Samantha, another RA in Mack. A lot of the residents had already left to go home for Reading Week, so it was a pretty quiet night overall. I got a lot of homework done, including reading 2 chapters of my psych textbook, which was really nice. I watched Crazy, Stupid, Love with one of the residents to help me stay awake until the end of the night and was finally able to go to bed at 4am.

Friday morning, I slept in until 9 and then came home to pack my bag to leave for Reading Week. Originally, I was supposed to be catching a bus in Montreal at noon but was unable to find a ride to Montreal so instead, I found a ride to Toronto leaving at noon. I was expecting a student around my age to come pick me up, but the driver ended up being a part time student and husband of a BU prof who was going to Toronto for a home inspectors' conference. To sum up the drive, I learned a lot about home inspection and furniture building. The driver wanted someone to help him stay awake, so I was unable to do my favourite road trip activity, aka sleep. He dropped me off in Pickering and I caught the Go Train home to Aldershot, where my dad picked me up that night. After a long day on the road, it was so nice to see my family and then go to bed.
My suitcase-in-a-suitcase packing job
A wave of tiredness just hit me, so I will catch you up on Reading Week later tonight! Have a great Sunday everyone and I wish you good luck adjusting to Daylight Savings!

All my love, Erica xoxoxoxo
